"When I accept things are out of my control somehow life becomes more manageable even though nothing has changed."

THE BLESSING OF NOT GETTING WHAT YOU WANT

A client of mine and her beloved are in the process of expanding their family. They are calling in a baby. The only thing is they don't know if the baby is going to be a biological combination of the two of them, or not.

She began our session by sharing her frustration about not having CONTROL. This woman is highly competent and dealing with the surrender part of the baby triggers impatience. Understandable as she is a human person and not some saint who walks on water. We all have a part of us that wants what we want when we want it. Well, I know I do, maybe you do too.

The wonderful thing is she also has a lot of wisdom. She has learned by living her life that we grow through adversity and there are often, if not always, blessings in NOT getting what we want.

So after getting her frustration off her chest, she proceeded to tell me the good things that have occurred so far in the few months since they started this journey towards family. One is that she is eating better, not just sometimes but all the time. She listed a few more bonuses as well.

She shared with me that every now and again she is able to accept the process as it is. When that happens she finds herself wondering about adopting and asking herself why she is demanding that the baby come through her body?!

She laughed as she revealed she heard my voice in her head one day reminding her sometimes we get attached to the form of something rather than going for the essence. She realized she wants a family and actually believes in adoption, and in that moment of acceptance she opened to something greater.

We all tend to do that. Tune into the wanting of something and then get attached to the what we imagine the form to be.

I encourage you to take the time and uncover what things really mean to you. For example for me, my home is sanctuary, a place to retreat and restore. It is also a place to enjoy family and friends, to grow and cook good food to eat that nourishes me deeply. For you home may mean something else.

My work isn't about letters after my name, or being a Board Certified Professional Counselor and a Certified Coach. My work is a vehicle to be of service to others, making a positive difference by facilitating possibility and the discovery of Love and Loving. There are so many different ways to offer that service, just like my client can find a variety of ways to create a family.

If you find yourself stuck in not having something you think you want ask yourself, what is it I really want, what is the experience I am looking for that this thing I am wanting represents, and then go for the experience. You'll be a lot freer and happier if you do.
