"Life is what happens to you while you' busy
making other plans."
~ John Lennon ~

LEMONADE
Every now and again I get an email from a reader I
am happy to discover is full of wisdom. I recently received the following
from a former student:
"I wanted to share something with you. About
a year and a half ago, I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. There
was a board member who was making my life living hell. Well, I lived
through it and survived and I have a few 'gifts' to show for it. I
realized that I was the problem because I allowed her neurotic behavior
to have so much power over me and I have control of what I take in or
not. "
What simple truths this woman is sharing. She is
owning that no matter what goes on in her life SHE HAS CONTROL over what
she chooses to influence her OR NOT.
We all have power over our actions and our choices.
That's it. We have no power over anyone else.
The email continues:
"Last week, I was downsized at work. My job
was made part time and the other half will be dispersed among my co-
workers. I was the only one affected and I WAS CERTAIN that my arch
enemy was behind it."
In the absence of information, we make things up.
This is a human experience. We fill in the blanks. It is a process that
has helped us survive. We hear a sound, we search the files in our
computer brain to see if we can put meaning on that sound... "is that
a sound that can eat me? or can I eat it?" Then we act according to
the meaning we make up.
It is fine that as humans we make things up. What
serves is to realize we make things up and just because we think it so,
doesn't make it true.
The email goes on:
"WELLLLLLL I was WRONG. In fact, I found out
that she was my strongest supporter!? Go figure... That's quite a life
lesson."
What a gift to find out we are WRONG! Perhaps next
time we will remember to check out what we are imagining to discern what
is true and what is fantasy.
She continues:
"So, at the end of March, I will be one of
the 10% unemployed in Las Vegas. It was difficult at first, and I was a
bit startled, but I have decided that I need to move on and it is
important for me to leave on a high note. I will seek a position where I
work with people I respect and is a harmonious environment. I want to be
happy to go to work every day and I will work to bring creativity back
in my life."
This to me is a true warrior. When given lemons she
chose to make lemonade.
What about you?
Are you looking for the gifts, the opportunities
presented in your current situation. We are all facing changes in our
lives. The question is what choices will you make, what actions will you
take to turn these lemons into a refreshing and nourishing drink that will
feed your soul?
