The
EXPERIMENT
As you've seen by my last few articles I have been
playing with my food. It started with a 14 day cleanse and was followed by
what I'm calling my experiment with raw.
I am amazed at how much fun I am having exploring
the realm of raw food prep. Just last week I spent an afternoon getting
coached (yes - I get coached too), on preparing raw foods. It was a ton of
fun playing with food and creating things I had never eaten before.
I am noticing that describing what I am doing as,
Playing with My Food, or the Raw Food Experiment, fosters a sense of fun
and adventure, more than if I tell myself I'm on a raw foods diet. The
word diet is not encouraging. It triggers eww - only raw - how boring.
Instead of feeling bored and restricted, when I call
what I'm doing play and exploration I find I am enthused and eager to try
new things.
Trying new things is fun. I actually had a chocolate
pudding made from raw cacao powder, maple syrup and avocado that was for
me, out of this world yum. I never would have imagined.
I've been having so much fun I thought I'd let you
know how powerful words can be and encourage you to notice how you talk to
yourself.
Start with an area in your life you are not
currently enjoying. Notice how you describe the situation to yourself. Do
your words excite you or pull you down? If the latter, challenge yourself
to change the words and see what happens.
Recently a client of mine kept telling herself
something she was learning was hard. Putting myself in her shoes, I
couldn't imagine that description would encourage me to keep practicing
until I became competent. It sounded like a set up to give up.
It's simple to turn "it's hard," to
"I'm learning how to ___ ." Try it on. What do you notice? For
me, it's a minor change with a BIG difference.
So if you are finding something in your life is
'hard,' notice what you are saying to you and challenge yourself to PLAY
with your words and do something different. See if you can language the
situation in a way that invites you to participate in a more open way.
