There's Patience and There is Patience

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.
   ~ Buddha ~

Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy -- because we will always want to have something else or something more.
   ~ Brother David Steindl-Rast ~

THERE'S PATIENCE AND THERE IS PATIENCE

patience |?p? sh ?ns| noun the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset : you can find bargains if you have the patience to sift through the dross.

PHRASES lose patience (or lose one's patience) become unable to keep one's temper : even Lawrence finally lost patience with him.

Have you ever heard someone say, I'm a patient person. What does that really mean? From the above definition we see patience is tolerating delay with equanimity. To me that is disguised impatience, not patience at all. It's just that instead of getting huffy about waiting, the person has found a way to be calm.

My definition of patience is accepting and cooperating with what is, while holding a vision of a preferred reality, knowing all there really is is now, and what is wanted may never occur, and being okay with that.

Whew, that's a long sentence. I wonder if I added enough commas.

What I'm saying is there's a difference between tolerating delay and accepting what is.

Accepting and cooperating with what is is part of the process of bringing forward what you want, when you engage creatively. Engaging creatively looks like observing what is, neutrally, without judgment, while simultaneously holding a vision of what you want. The discrepancy fuels a creative energy that opens a space for what you want to occur.

Add a dose of gratitude and you have a Mega Power Tool, as gratitude CAN shift the present moment into something better.

Choosing gratitude for what is is a powerful focus. When you do, patience is unnecessary.
