SUPER SLOW
I don't know about you but I have a tendency to be
busy. Sometimes I look back on my day and wonder if someone put super glue
on the seat of my chair as I seemed stuck there with my head in my
computer all day.
Sitting still does not equal exercise.
This year, one of my intentions was to create a
habit of exercise.
Knowing what we want in life is essential if we are
going to create it. I was clear about the What: to support my body with
movement to facilitate greater health, vitality, strength and flexibility.
It also serves to know WHY we want it. Why does it
matter to me to be healthy, strong and flexible? Because I want to feel
good in my body, have the energy to do what I want to do, and to give what
I want to give.
Where I got stumped was the HOW. Hows often get in
the way of creating WHAT.
When I would try and figure out HOW to get my
exercise into my week I became defeated. Three times a week cardio, 3
times a week strength training, plus yoga for flexibility had me either
training, or preparing for and traveling to location for 12 or more hours
a week.
No way could I 'figure out' HOW to make that happen,
so I didn't do anything. I let my focus on HOW defeat me.
One day I was in a local store, an outlet for a
sustainable farm not two miles from my home. I was browsing through their
book section. The book, "In Praise of Slowness" practically fell
off the shelf and into my hands. Not a week later I was reading about
Super Slow, a way to exercise that literally takes 30 minutes once a week.
Well that sounded intriguing. Once a week is a
doable start to developing a new habit, so I did an internet search
curious if there were any facilities near me.
I live 54 miles from my Chicago office in a somewhat
rural area and was doubtful there would be anything near me. And I was
correct.
BUT, not 7 BLOCKS from my office was the ONLY
facility in Chicago.
I called to set up my appointment for the first week
of this year to find out they were moving over the holidays.
They were moving to a location . . .
. . . to less than 3 BLOCKS from my office!
I can walk there in about 5 minutes!!!
No way could I have orchestrated this kind of HOW.
My power lies in my willingness to know what I want, and why, and to open
up to receive support from the co-creative energies that be.
And so, 10 weeks later you should see my biceps. And
my triceps which have never been much to talk about are really coming
along as is the rest of my body. I am feeling really good, and am looking
forward to my daily walks as spring arrives and melts the current iceland.
