F
E A R and THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN
by Leslie Karen Sann
Life does what it does. What you do with what life
does is the experience you get to live in. Sometimes what we do is Make
Things Up. Sometimes what we make up frightens us, especially if you have
been listening to the news lately. (A friend of mine says CNN stands for
Constantly Negative News.)
How do we scare ourselves? Let's look at the word
FEAR:
Fantasized
Expectations
Appearing
Real
There is Fear, as in a saber tooth tiger is going to
eat me if I don’t get my butt up this tree, and there is Fear, as in I’m
imagining the sky is falling and I am freaking out that my life is falling
apart. The first fear got us this far in our evolution. The second one
drives us bananas.
Worry is how we run away from facing the fear. The
Power Move is to turn instead and face our fear. Look at the Worst
Possible Outcome and figure out What You Would DO if The Worst Occurred.
You may surprise yourself with your resourcefulness and you may find that
the Worst of All is just another bump in the road.
Remember the "Wizard of Oz"? The wizard
seemed a lot scarier projected Bigger than Reality onto the screen in the
great room. The truth was he was just an ordinary man.
I suggest you go ahead and look at the man behind
the curtain. You will find the situation is much more manageable than your
Fantasized Expectations Appearing Real are telling you.
What happens when you face your fears and let
yourself feel your feelings is that you open up a connection with your
creativity. Once that door opens you are able to assess the situation and
get innovative about solving it.
So go ahead, do look at the man behind the curtain.
Face what it is that is frightening you. You may surprise yourself and
find you are much greater than you thought. You may discover you are the
wizard that can make things happen and as such you can relax into your
creativity and trust that all is well.
