ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?

According to my calculations we're about 1/2 way through the summer here in the northern hemisphere and my question for you is, are you having fun?

The reason I'm asking is that I received a memo this week about a potentially dangerous virus and I want to make sure you know about it so it doesn't infect your summertime fun. This virus is called Weary Overload Recreational Killer (WORK).

Now there is work and there is WORK. And then there is FUN.

FUN is fun.

This past weekend I went to the Kane County Fair. I was especially excited because there was an elephant show. I imagined it would be more fun than the pig races sponsored by Swifty Swine Productions of last year. The pig races were a hoot, but elephants! I love elephants. Ever since reading "Water for Elephants", by Sara Gruen I've been in love.

I find my enjoyment of the fair is enhanced if I bring my inner 5 year old along with me. The only way to love the hype is to see my surroundings through the eyes of a child.

Go here to see pictures — including one of me riding on Cora, the 48 year old Asian elephant who weighs in at 9000 pounds, and though her skin is 1" thick she is ticklish. Double click on the first photo for the best slide show.

Something else I like to do in the summer for fun is go to the local water park. I am the only middle age woman in line. Any other adult is there because they've brought their kids. Do we care? Not in the least.

I encourage you to make the most of the rest of your summer. Why not plan some fun? Who would you like to spend time with? What fun activities would you like to do?

Here are some ideas:

  • Visit a water park
  • Schedule a cookout and if you have a yard - play volleyball
  • Plan a beach day or outdoor picnic with friends
  • Go to an outdoor concert
  • Have fun at a drive in
  • How 'bout biking, roller blading or sailing?Hang out and do absolutely nothing for one whole weekend

If you have forgotten how to have fun — ask someone for ideas. Don't let the WORK virus sap you of your creativity and sense of play.

Schedule your fun in your calendar and have a good time.

Please write me about your summer fun. Maybe you'll inspire me to try something new.
