LIFE
IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR LEARNING
We have been indoctrinated with the fantasy that
life has a certain pattern to which we aspire. We graduate, marry, kids,
success, live happily ever after. The American dream. Whatever version you
live with has been fed to you as what it is to be human in America.
But if we look around, life isn't like that. Life is
filled with struggle. People get sick, lose their jobs, have relationship
problems and more. If we hold onto the thought 'this shouldn't be
happening to me,' we are bound to make ourselves miserable.
Life's struggles have their own wisdom. They are
designed to foster opportunities for learning and growth. When we embrace
adversity from a place of curiosity, wondering how this is serving us, we
create a shift that can be seen as a miracle. Instead of suffering, we are
now empowered.
What if you were the designer of your life and some
part of you had actually set up the experience you are having??
A client I am working with is dealing with the news
that her husband wants a divorce. To me, she is amazing. Less than one
month after receiving the news, she is wondering how she set this up, what
she is learning and how can she be a better role model for her two boys.
Let's all give this woman an Atta-Girl!
Amazing. To choose wonder rather than resent. To
choose curiosity over self-pity. How many people do you know choose to
expand rather than contract in the face of adversity?
Instead of complaining, what if you asked yourself a
question? What if you asked yourself, "Why would I be inviting this
into my life right now? I wonder what I need to learn??" In doing so,
I wonder what kind of miracles you can create.
QUOTES
The one who thinks he knows it all falls flat on
his face. The one who says, "I am open to learn" is going to
endure to the end because this planet is a learning situation.
