GIVING IT
UP
A long while ago when I was in school for my Masters
in Counseling Psychology, I was required to participate in a year long
internship. I needed to have my paperwork signed and turned into my
professor by March 31st.
On December 15th prior to the deadline, my landlord
sold the building I was living in. To my surprise the new owners asked me to move. This was out of the blue. Moving had not been in
my plans.
I decided to use this as an opportunity to get out
of the city, and to buy a home.
Fortunately. I had been
building a Living Vision (see Write
it Down, Make a PIcture) of a home I would like to live in for years,
and the energy around this vision was very strong. But my vision was
missing location.
Chicago is a big city. I could move north, I could
move south, I could move west. Fortunately I couldn't move east as there
was the issue of Lake Michigan. Did I mention Chicago is a BIG city with
lots of sprawl, and many neighborhoods I hadn't a clue existed.
Now I am moving AND I had a requirement to fulfill
-- find an internship. Both had imposed deadlines. How am I to do that?? I
can find an internship -- that part is doable. But since it is a year of
working without pay, I'd like it to be close to where I live.
But where will I be living?
How can I call in an internship close to my home if
there is no home location to reference?
What I did was I created a Living Vision of an
internship that satisfied all the things I was looking for and added the
clause, "and is no more than 15 minutes from my new home."
I then set time aside to make my request to the
"Universe," ending with Spirit (fill in whatever word works for
you that relates to that which manifests blessings) knows my needs, knows
where the right internship for me is, and is bringing it to me now.
This gave me great comfort as I had no control over
the circumstances of my life, other than my ability to take action, make
choices, and ask for support. I could choose to take action by sending a
clear request to my co-Creator.
AND I was also choosing to surrender. I gave it up.
Giving it UP is very different than giving up. I gave it UP to that which
is greater and had faith that it would come to me in the perfect timing
and in the perfect form (which may not be in the timing or the shape my
ego preferred).
Now having faith does not mean I sat idly waiting
for someone to call me informing me they had found the perfect position
right near a great home. I kept taking action on both fronts. I call this
faithing = faith + action.
Any time I found myself nervous about meeting the
March 31st deadline for school, I would repeat my request and give it UP
again. I found comfort in this. This is how I worked with my current
reality which was lack of future home and internship nearby in contrast to
my desire to have a home and internship by March 31st. (see The

this discrepancy).
I kept taking action on both the home and internship
searches. On March 5th I found my new home. I knew it the
minute I stepped through the front door.
I returned in a few days and put down the escrow,
at which time I asked the real estate agent if she knew of any counseling
centers nearby. She loaned me her yellow pages and I took it home. By
Monday of the following week I had an interview lined up, and by the end
of that day I had an internship.
Guess what -- it was no more than 15 minutes from
our new home!

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING
- What are you trying to MAKE HAPPEN that is out of
your sphere of influence?
- I suggest you write out an end state scenario
with a full description stated in the positive and in present tense
describing what you want to occur.
- Then Give it UP. You can even imagine putting
your request into your hands and sending it UP to whatever is the
Source, your co-Creator.
- If there is an action you can take, take it. If
not, go for a walk, play with your dog, take a time out for a right
now pleasure of this moment, knowing your request is now in good
hands.

is Greater, and become a co-creator of your life?
