GO
LITTLE
Just the other day I had a mammogram. Lucky me you
may be thinking. Well, the good news it was routine and the gooder news is
that there is no news, just a reminder to do it again next year.
But that's not what I was going to tell you about.
What I was going to tell you about was the experience I had. The mammogram
itself was sandwiched (you ladies I'm sure can relate to the sandwiching
process at times like this) - uh - as I was saying - sandwiched between
two feel good experiences.
I was greeted by a genuinely kind woman who invited
me to wait in a very comfortable room. The room was decorated in relaxing
colors and was light filled. It also had a table full of snacks, and a
computer station to keep me busy if I was one of those folks who just
can't sit still and do nothing for more than five minutes (not me - I
brought a book to read : ).
They called me before I had time to open my book.
That felt good. I was then taken care of by a competent, efficient and
warm woman. She then sent me on my way by telling me there was a gift for
me on my way out!
At the desk I received my choice of nail polish, a
certificate for a free lunch at a local, funky restaurant, and a coupon to
use at a dress shop. How fun is all that!?
I left joking with the receptionists that they were
distracting me with goodies so I actually was glad I went. They laughed
because it was true.
When I arrived in the parking lot, there was a kind,
older man who offered to drive me to my car in a golf cart. My car was
very close so I declined, but then changed my mind and said yes. It was
way more fun to ride in a golf cart than walk.
He dropped me off at my car and then saluted as he
backed away, thanking me for flying with the hospital. We both laughed as
he drove off.
I got in the car and was so energized and happy that
I called my husband to tell him about my good time. Go figure, I actually
had fun at my routine mammogram check up.
How did that happen?
People were kind, friendly, and caring of me, my
body, and my time. And they gave me goodies. How much could the nail
polish cost them? Probably little to nothing if they were donated, free
advertising for the nail polish manufacturer. And the gift certificates -
no cost at all.
But the impact was huge. I felt acknowledged and
appreciated for taking action on my own behalf. The same way I do when I
leave the voting booth and get one of those "I Voted" stickers.
Little things make a very big difference. We can
support ourselves and others in feeling good in little ways. And when we
feel good, we do good. When we do good, we feel good.
Feeling good is good as in yummy good, as in now we
are more able to be kind and caring to ourselves and to others.
Ask yourself, what are little things I can do for
myself and others to promote more goodness on the planet.
It's the little things that make a big difference.
Go Little.
QUOTES
Keep working on right now so that now keeps
feeling good."
~ John Roger ~
PRACTICALLY SPEAKING
- Focus on what is working right now - what feels
good in this moment.
- What can you do to make that feeling bigger? Take
a moment to appreciate that which feels good right now.
- What's one thing you can do right now to feel
even gooder? Do it.
- Notice how you are feeling even better.
- Now wonder if you have generated enough good
feeling to give from the overflow.
- If not, keep building your feeling good. Perhaps
a walk, a few deep breaths, a glass of water.
- If so, why not give to another. Something little
will do. A note of appreciation to your spouse for going grocery
shopping. A foot massage to your loved one when they come home. A
bouquet of flowers picked from the garden.
- Remember, little things make a big difference.
- Go little.
WONDER
QUESTIONS:
- Are you willing to support yourself in feeling good?
- Are you willing to give from the overflow and
spread your goodness around?
