LOVING
IS A PREREQUISITE FOR LOVING
I was working with a client yesterday who was
talking about her frustration with her job. In her mind she is not
utilizing her gifts at her current position. The problem for her is that
the money is decent and she is not willing to risk the stability of the
cash flow to find out if, "she does what she wants that the money
will follow."
I love that she is exploring this. How many of us
actually can do what we love the most and generate the kind of income that
will cover not only our expenses but the lifestyle we would prefer???
Yet many are haunted/taunted by the thought they
should be doing what they love for work.
This client in particular would love to earn money
as an artist. She is quite talented and could express her art in a variety
of ways.
Yet, when we explored further - what she became
aware of was that she loved the expression of her art - but would not love
the marketing of her art in order to generate income.
Interesting. Many of us are fooled into thinking
that all we have to do is express our art, our gift, our talent full out
and the money will come pouring in. It's like thinking I'm going to meet
the man of my dreams without ever leaving my house.
Back to my client. I asked her to wonder what about
her art does she love? This question also relates to her quest to uncover
her purpose. What she revealed was a gift she has of openness that
supports others in opening as well, and that she loved being in the flow,
that exchange from heart to heart.
She realized she transmits this gifts no matter what
she is doing; teaching yoga, writing music, performing her music, making
friends with her sister-in-law, or dealing with clients on the phone at
work!
Again we wondered - what if she loved what she did
at her current job? What if she focused on her expression of giving her
gift at work? What if she began to see her fellow work mates as people
with which to share her gifts? What if she turned her job into another art
form? Hmmmm.
What if YOU loved what you did no matter what you
were doing? What if you actually brought yourself fully to any task and
gave of your gifts fully to what you were doing? Would you then be doing
what you love and receiving a paycheck as well?
Not everyone's life is served by having their gifts
obviously compensated financially. Instead some of us have the opportunity
to transform what we do with the service of our hearts.

REQUEST
I am writing a book on forgiveness. If you would
like to contribute you can do one or both of two things:
- ask me any questions you might have about
forgiveness, what is it, how to do it, why do it.....
- send me any story you may have about how
forgiveness, forgiving yourself or another has changed your life, even
in small ways.
Once I have received your questions or story I will
send you a link - and you can hear the audio of the interview I did on the
topic of forgiveness.
Thanks!
PRACTICALLY SPEAKING:
Take time to notice and record what you do at work.
Pay attention not only to the actual doing that you get paid for, but also
notice the qualities you have the opportunity to express as you go through
your day. Ask yourself:
- What do you love about your work experience?
- What don't you love about what you do?
- What keeps you from loving your job experience
more?
Once you see what is blocking you from loving what
you do more - challenge yourself to give your loving to that which you
dislike. See if you can transform that which you dislike into something
you love.
Remember - we love what we do when we love. Loving
is a prerequisite for loving.
WONDER QUESTION:
- How can you love what you do?
- What can you shift inside of yourself in order to
come present to your loving?
- Are you willing to transform your life by loving
it all?
