MEETING
THE CHALLENGE OF CHANGE
Conclusion
It has been my experience that people who embrace
change by imagining the possibilities, rising to the challenge and
focusing on the outcome they desire are the people living a life of their
own design.
Change happens. Life is change. There is no
controlling Life. Life does what it does. The question for each of us to
ask in response to what Life does is now what? What do I want, where am I
headed, and how do I choose to respond to Life doing what life does?
Often change comes at us from our blind side. We are
caught unaware and are asked to make a dramatic shift in our focus.
Perhaps someone we love falls ill, or loses their job.
Sometimes we are the one's initiating the change.
Often we get impatient. We begin that diet and expect instant results. We
decide to be more loving to our spouse and wonder why they are not jumping
up and down with joy for the shifts we have made - in the last two days .
. .
Change happens in it's own perfect timing. Our
opportunity is to learn to dance with change and enjoy the music as we
move along. We have influence in the direction some changes will take. And
clearly we don't have influence over all aspects of our lives or the lives
of others. Wisdom is knowing the difference and investing our energies in
those areas where we can indeed make a difference.
One of the greatest powers we have as humans in our
lives is how we CHOOSE to respond to change as it happens. We can choose
to resist, argue, complain or we can choose to open to the gifts, look for
the blessings, and discover how we can partner with what is happening in
this moment right now.
QUOTES:
"God grant me the serenity to accept the
things which I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and the
wisdom to know the difference."
~Reinhold Niebuhr 1926~
PRACTICALLY SPEAKING:
- Notice how you relate to change. Do you argue
with it - and if so what energy do you produce in yourself? Most of us
when we argue with what is, disturb ourselves.
- Notice if instead you embraced change as it is -
accept it - dance with it. Notice what energy you invite through your
acceptance. Most people notice they experience peace.
- Which energy would you rather live in? Upset or
peace? You get to choose based on how you respond to change.
WONDER QUESTIONS:
- How do you choose to dance with change?
- What kind of dance partner are you when meeting
the challenge of change?
- Are you willing to meet the challenge of change
with grace, acceptance, and an openness to receive?
