HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT IT?
Meeting the Challenge of Change, Part 14

Conscious change costs us. It costs time, vision, commitment, effort, awareness, action. Without this investment change is merely a thought, a wish, a yearning.

In order to succeed, you must have enough dissatisfaction with the way things are, combined with a vision of what you want and a strategy for getting there. This combo must be more powerful than the cost of disturbing your comfort in order to manifest the change.

On a scale of 0 - 10, how much is your life energy being invested in dealing with the consequences of pattern you want to change? How much is it the status quo costing you in energy (emotional, mental, financial, physical), and time? Zero = none. 10 = 100%.

Look at that number and ask yourself - what could you be doing if you were to free that energy to be utilized in a more conscious way?

How much do you want what you say you want? Are you willing to do the work of wrestling with the old to establish the new. You must want what you want enough if you are to be successful at manifesting the change you desire.

Change is accompanied by a struggle between our same ol', same ol' zone of the familiar, and the new behavior we want to manifest. The habit has been around a lot longer. It has been doing it's thing, running it's pattern over and over for years, and years, and years. That 'old self' wants to keep it's turf. It's going to do whatever it can to undermine the 'new self's' successful take over.

Now ask yourself - how much do I want what I just wrote down? 0 = not at all. 10 = as much as my next breath. Compare your two numbers. If the dissatisfaction number is greater - then your comfort patterns win.

To be successful you must have a powerful vision, a strategy, and a willingness to take action again and again and again.

You can do it IF you really want it.

QUOTES:

"Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare."
   ~ Japanese Proverb ~

"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
  ~ George Bernard Shaw ~

"Losers visualize the penalties of failure. Winners visualize the rewards of success."

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING:

  • Notice what you are dissatisfied with. What situation, issue, behavior, pattern do you want to change?
  • Ask yourself - how much of my life energy am I investing in this issue? Be honest with yourself. Notice all levels: physical, financial, time, emotional, mental, spiritual. 0 is no energy at all - it's a non-issue. 10 = 100% of my energy.
  • What do you want instead? If things, patterns, behaviors, situations were the way you want, what would that be? Be clear and specific. Write it down. Make your language positive, present tense, and powerful. (See related articles for more details.)
  • Now ask yourself - how much do I want what I just wrote down? 0 = not at all. 10 = as much as my next breath.
  • Compare your two numbers. If the dissatisfaction number is greater - then your comfort patterns win.
  • If that is the case - what can you do to make your vision number BIGGER? What can you do to juice it up? Make it more attractive? More powerfully inviting? Do you need to get clearer as to the benefits to you, to others? How might accomplishing your desire serve you and the world?
  • Be honest with yourself. Is this a heartfelt desire - or is it a should that is sitting on you? If it is a should - make it a could and start over. Can you get enough juice behind it to empower it to win over the zone of the familiar? What would Wild Success look like? Really go for it. Imagine yourself enjoying the fruits of your labor - living your desire fully and completely.
  • If you cannot emBOLDen your vision to the point of excitement and enthusiasm - CROSS IT OFF YOUR LIST. Don't waste your time and energy telling yourself you want something you really aren't committed to making happen.
  • If you have empowered your vision to the point of it being HUGELY attractive then ask yourself - WHAT IS AN ACTION - I can take to move me closer to this vision.
  • NOW DO IT!
  • Keep asking the question and taking the actions. Action, action, action produces results. You will know you are done when you are living what you want.

WONDER QUESTIONS:

  • What do you want?
  • How much do you want it?
  • Are you willing to make the investment, pay the price, to have what you want?
