NO
MATTER WHERE YOU GO - THERE YOU ARE
Meeting the Challenge of Change, Part 13
Most of us have changes we would like to make in our
lives. Perhaps it's to shift a dynamic in a relationship, or change a
pattern of behavior. Some people get so fed up with how things are - they
throw everything overboard, get a new spouse, a new job, relocate.
Most of us, no matter where we go, tend to take our
old self with us. We drag along the same identities, self-talk, and old
images of ourselves. It's highly unlikely that the same 'ol, same 'ol is
going to produce a different result.
If we want to make a change we have to realize that
we are in charge of the change that takes place. What you do, how you
live, what you become, is almost entirely up to you. If you keep doing the
same thing over and over you are going to produce the same result over and
over.
Of course there are outside circumstances, but how
YOU deal with them is still up to no one else but you.
The brain simply believes what you tell it the most.
What you tell it about you it will create. It has no choice. That is how
the computer that is our brain is designed.
The key is to be in charge of what you say to
yourself. Self-talk is amazingly powerful. Your choice to be in charge of
what you say to yourself will open the door to a future that does not
equal the past.
Self-talk is a way to override your past negative
programing by replacing it with conscious, positive new direction. Learn
to change your self-talk and learn to change your life.
Notice the difference between the first and second
statements:
"Driving in traffic stresses me out."
"I enjoy relaxing while driving in the car."
"I just can't seem to save money." "I
earn a great income, and every month, without fail, I put 10% or more of
what I earn aside."
"I wish I had more time." "I make
time and take time to do the things that are important to me."
"I just can't get up in the morning."
"It is easy for me to get up and at it in the mornings."
Remember the brain believes what you tell it the
most. Which of the statements above would you prefer to have your brain
create for you?
You get to choose.
When you notice yourself giving yourself negative
direction, "I can't stop smoking, I love it too much."
Immediately change what you say to yourself, "Taking care of my body
is important to me, therefore I choose not to smoke."
Program your brain to serve you in creating what you
really want. This way wherever you go - there will be the person you
choose to be.
QUOTES:
"If we can become one-tenth as good at
positive self-talk as we are at negative self-talk, we will notice an
enormous change."
~ Julia Cameron ~
"How you relate to the issue, is the
issue!"
~ Ron Hulnick ~
PRACTICALLY SPEAKING:
- Identify a pattern of negative self- talk that
you would like to change. It could be related to an area of concern,
or perhaps it was triggered by a creative next step.
- What are you telling yourself about this?
- Ask yourself, "What could I tell myself that
would be more self-supporting and encouraging?"
- Allow yourself to redirect your self-talk into a
more positive pattern.
- Notice any shifts that take place within you as
you change your self talk.
- Notice how your body feels. Is it more relaxed?
Notice your emotions. Are you feeling more open? Notice your thoughts?
Are they still focused on self-support?
- Acknowledge and appreciate yourself for choosing
to shift the way you speak to you.
WONDER QUESTIONS:
- Are you willing to be a creative force in your
life by choosing to shift from speaking negatively to yourself to
empowering yourself with positive self-talk?
- Are you willing to create a future that is
different than your past?
- Are you willing to claim the creative power to
grow, learn, and expand?
