PAYING ATTENTION TO CHANGE
Meeting the Challenge of Change, Part 11

The only thing constant is change. I know that - or so I thought until I began to witness my father's health decline. I began to see that I too have a body that will decay, that one day I may not be able to walk, without assistance, or see to read a book, or drive to the grocery store for supplies. Change means one day I too will die.

Knowing this, and finally getting this truth in my body has been both painful and inspiring. The future seems altered somehow. I can imagine the end. As a result I have been asking myself - where am I investing my energy? Am I doing what I want to be doing? Am I enjoying this moment and if not what can I do to shift and open to the place for me that IS joy?

When I reflect upon my life, I feel sad when I look at all the moments I've indulged in closing off and separating from life as it was in the moment. If I knew then what I know now .... .

Living up to and in to this moment is what has brought me this insight. Regret is useless. Making choices to support my openness is essential if I am going to grow into the wise old woman that is mine to become.

No matter where you are in your life, you can challenge yourself to notice if you are living life on your own terms - or sleepwalking to the exit door. Whatever you discover - you can make new choices and begin to awaken to who you are and what you want. This is the power of conscious change. To be conscious as things change and to participate in making the difference is what makes the difference.

  • What do you want?
  • Do you want it enough to do what it takes to make it happen?
  • What is your next action?

  • Are you willing to be the predominant creative force in your life?
  • If so, what is the difference that will make a difference in your life?
