TRY
HARDER -- NOT
Powerful People Make Things Easy (Part 3)
(This article is a continuation in a series
about our personal power to create the life we want)
Okay, check this out. Find something within your
reach right now that is easily picked up.
NOTICE it with your eyes.
Now THINK the thought, “I’m going to pick that
up.”
Now IMAGINE yourself picking the item up.
FEEL the emotions you experience when you
successfully achieve something you set out to do.
Great.
Now TRY and pick it up.
If the item is in your hand right now you didn’t
try, so set it down and TRY and pick it up.
I want you to really try HARD. Try HARDER!
Ahhh, if you picked it up you failed at trying, even
if you tried harder, so set it back down.
Okay. Now pick it up.
If you have the item in your hand you DID it! You
picked it up. You took an action and created a result.
Thinking about doing something does not make it
happen. Imagining doing something doesn’t do it either. Feeling like
doing it doesn’t work. And trying - well - TRY and pick it up.
Action is what produces results. We can pretend we
are taking action by telling ourselves we tried, or we’re thinking about
it, or imagining our success, but as the Nike ad says - “DOING Does It!”

QUOTES:
"Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a
matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be
achieved."
~ Jeremy Kitson ~
“This summer has seen the completion of the
1860's farmhouse project. It has taken us three years to renovate the
structure but we now have moved across the driveway. Dreams do come true
with enough determination, patience, and hard work. Next year we tackle
the barn.”
~ Penny Newkirk ~

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING:
- Action is preceded by thought, imagining, and
emotion. Unless we use those to fuel action, we are merely ‘trying’
not doing.
- Doing includes choosing a vision, imagining a
result, fueling the vision with feeling, and taking a tangible,
measurable action step.

WONDER QUESTIONS:
-
How do your thoughts, feelings, imaginings
enhance or distract from your ability to take action?
-
What are you doing/thinking/imagining when you
are in your power?
