True Wealth
Like most of us I have been deeply moved by the
events of 9/11. I realize, now more than ever, how grateful I am to be an
American. Not for some. "we are better than, love it or leave
it" reason, but because we are so blessed to live in this country.
9/11 has broken my heart open to this truth.
I am in awe of the discovery that I am rich. Wealthy
beyond measure when seen in the Light of most people in the world. I have
so much, and if I want, I can have more. The opportunity is available to
me to decide what I want and work to make it happen. In America we can
have and do anything, if we truly desire it. I'm not saying it is easy. I
am saying it is possible. There are no restrictions, no limitations, other
than the ones we place on ourselves.
I was having dinner out with my husband last week,
and I was looking around at the other diners. So many different people,
couples, families, friends gathering. All enjoying a delicious meal out,
and I realized once again how blessed we are. This really is a land of
opportunity.
In my work, I am privileged to know about my clients
past circumstances. I am often part of the process of re-framing these
histories from an experience of limitation to a foundation of strength
that empowers.
While sitting in that restaurant on Friday evening I
wondered:
"What if those of us who think our past has
been a detriment could see the past as the greatest gift of all?"
My grandparents on my mother's side, and my great
grandparents on my father's side were immigrants. This makes me second
generation on one side and third on the other. Compared with many others,
I guess I am a relatively "new" American, recently come over
"on the boat". I know my ancestors didn't travel first class.
The trip was probably not very pleasant. Yet they were grateful to get
here, they were grateful to arrive safely. They didn't curse the boat they
came on. They were grateful for the passage.
What if we were grateful for our passage to America?
What if we acknowledged the blessing of our birth and focused on the
abundance of opportunity and wealth here for us. What if instead of
complaining about the small cell without a porthole, we celebrated our
delivery and the richness we find ourselves amongst?
What might you do with the energy you tie up in
complaining about circumstances past or present? If you were to redirect
your energy, intention and focus to changing what you have into more of
what you want, what might you create? In America, the land of the free and
the plenty, the possibilities are endless, you can have what you want.
So, what do you want?
I look forward to exploring this further in the next
newsletter.
Love,
Leslie

QUOTES:
"Life isn't about finding yourself.
Life is about creating yourself."
~ George Bernard Shaw ~

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING:
When we choose to accept the past for exactly that,
the past, we can even go one step further and appreciate the past, for it
is that which got us to right now. Right now is full of opportunities that
can be harnessed.
- accept the boat that gave you passage to right
now.
- remember that you have the freedom of choice, you
can choose to be a victim to your past, or you can choose to be the
predominant creative force in your life
- ask yourself often, "What do I really
want?"
- go for it!
