Response to 'Baby O'

You’re in charge of how you show up in your life
given how Life shows up in you.”

Drunken Kelsi by Leslie Karen Sann

Some of the most profound gifts come in simple and unusual packages and it takes a special skill to open them. Through paying attention to what is present and listening to the Silence, we receive the gift that is offered. Today I am being gifted with a lesson about True Love from my treasured dog Kelsi, who recently turned 13.

Kelsi is having a problem. She is having trouble getting around. Her rear end doesn't seem to be fully responding to the signals from her brain. If I would see her walk on a youtube video it would be funny. She walks like a drunken sailor listing to the left. It would be funny, if I weren't taking the situation personally.

And it's not personal. Life is showing up in this expression of a sideways, stumbling, seemingly drunken Kelsi.

When I think that this means she is a goner I can upset myself. When sadness arises, and it has, I engage with it from Love. I love the part of me that is feeling sad at the thought of losing my companion of 13 years. Kelsi has been my partner at work, my friend, and my constant reminder that life is NOW and is to be enjoyed.

And then the sadness goes and I notice right now, in this moment, Kelsi is still by my side, a little off balance but here. I realize that though Kelsi is here with me in form today, she may not be tomorrow. In reality, I may not be either. Not only do thoughts and feelings come and go, so do bodies.

This awareness points me to what is always present, under thoughts, deeper than feelings. What I discover is a Silent, Empty space that is Love. True Love doesn't come or go.

Love always is. Right now Love is appearing to me in the form of Kelsi, but when the body of Kelsi goes, the Love that was expressing through her will always be. This is what my sideways, stumbling dog is teaching me today.

I didn't realize when we brought her home 13 years ago I would be changed so much by allowing myself to love and be loved so fully and completely.

I'm in charge of how I engage with Life as it appears. I choose to fully Love Life appearing as a seemingly drunken Kelsi and discover where it takes me next. A wide open heart invites blessings.

P.S. Good news, we have found a wonderful animal practitioner who is doing beautiful work with Kelsi and she is sobering up ;)

Response to 'Baby O'

I received so many replies to my last newsletter. It seems what is said about babies and dogs is true. People love them!

Here is one beautiful response I received permission to share:

“Love your message this week and the photos of course. I was awakened to silence and the power of stillness while in India. It is the one thing I brought back and use. I can notice stillness even with the mind chatter and can just sort of float away from the noise. Like the breath, silence is always there.”

I may have to re-read Siddhartha.
